The care plans are ready and a reliable care facility has been chosen – but how do you ensure that your furry family member is prepared for their stay? Before your dog can step through our door, one thing is paramount: up-to-date dog vaccinations. This is not bureaucracy, but the most important action we take to protect all our hotel residents, including your dog.
At Tassut.fi, we have seen over the years how crucial preventive healthcare is. A responsible care facility and a responsible owner work together – and it all starts with checking the vaccination record.
Why are vaccinations and deworming so important in a care facility?
A pet hotel hosts dogs from numerous different families. In such an environment, contagious diseases spread more easily than at home.
That is why the vaccination requirement is in everyone’s best interest. It protects:
- Your own dog: Only a valid vaccination status protects your dog, even if other guests are vaccinated.
- Other residents of the care facility: Even one asymptomatic carrier can infect all the animals in the facility.
- Our staff and their pets: We caregivers are also in daily contact with animals.
A responsible pet hotel can be recognised by its strict adherence to health requirements. We do not make exceptions, as the safety of every pet entrusted to us is a matter of honour.
Mandatory dog vaccinations before the stay
We require that your dog’s vaccinations are valid for the entire duration of their stay. We will check the vaccination certificate (vaccination card or pet passport) upon your dog’s arrival, so please bring it with you.
We require that the dog has a valid combination vaccine (parvovirus, distemper & infectious hepatitis), as well as a rabies vaccine. We also recommend vaccination against kennel cough (parainfluenza virus).
Validity of vaccinations – check the vaccination card carefully
Vaccinations require regular boosters every 1–3 years. Check the last valid date marked by the veterinarian on your dog’s vaccination card.
Remember the most important thing: do not leave the vaccination until the last minute! If the vaccination has expired, it must be renewed at least 21 days before the start of the stay. Developing antibody protection takes time, and without sufficient protection, we cannot accept the dog for care.
Other preparations before arriving at the care facility
Once the vaccinations are in order, a few practical matters will make your dog’s stay even more comfortable.
Special needs and medication
Does your dog have ongoing medication, a specific illness, or special needs, such as shyness or separation anxiety? Please inform us of all relevant details when making your reservation. Our staff, trained in animal care, is accustomed to various types of dogs, including rescue dogs that require special support. We will administer medication according to instructions and can accommodate your dog’s individual needs.
Additional services during the stay
Would you like to combine your dog’s stay with other pampering moments? We offer additional services such as nail trimming, bathing, and ear cleaning. Ask us about these when making your reservation!
Once the preparations are complete, you can embark on your journey with peace of mind. At Tassut.fi, we will care for your furry family member as if they were our own. Our location in Helsinki, next to Raide-Jokeri and the train station, makes us an easy stop, whether you are heading to the airport or the harbour.
Is everything ready? Book your stay easily through our booking system or contact us if you have any questions.
Frequently asked questions
A puppy is coming for a stay, what vaccinations does it need?
A puppy is welcome for a stay once its vaccination programme is complete. In practice, this means that the puppy has received the required combination and rabies vaccinations, and at least 21 days have passed since the last booster. This ensures that the puppy’s own protection has had time to develop.
The vaccination has expired by a day, can the dog still stay?
Unfortunately, we cannot make exceptions here. An expired vaccination is the same as an unvaccinated dog, and we cannot take that risk. This is a strict rule for the safety of all our guests and a standard practice in responsible care facilities. We recommend marking the vaccination booster dates in your calendar well in advance.
What happens if the dog falls ill during the stay?
If a dog shows symptoms during their stay, we will contact you immediately. We will consult our partner veterinarian to assess the situation and agree on all actions with you. Only in an acute emergency will we act immediately for the dog’s best interest and take them to the veterinarian.
How do I prove that the dog’s vaccinations are up to date?
You can easily prove valid vaccinations with the dog’s vaccination card or pet passport. Please remember to bring it with you when you bring your dog for care. We will check it upon arrival, and unfortunately, we cannot accept a dog without official documentation.
